The Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) has issued its official rating for Resident Evil 4‘s remake.
The game has received an M for Mature, as with most games in the series.
However, it departs from other games in one important way. That is, it includes decapitation, which has been absent from the series in nearly two decades.
According to ESRB (via Rely on Horror), “Players use pistols, machine guns, shotguns, and explosives to kill enemy creatures in frenetic combat. Some weapons/attacks result in decapitation and/or dismemberment of enemies, along with large splatters of blood. Enemy attacks (e.g., chainsaws, tentacles) can also result in Leon being decapitated, blown apart, or impaled. Eviscerated animals and mutilated corpses are depicted in some environments. The words “f*k” and “sht” appear in the game.”
The game is being developed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC and scheduled to release on March 24, 2023.
